ico_scheduled.jpgico_private.jpgico_group.jpg

We depart from the city and head for the Constantia Winelands to discover the oldest, most enduring vineyard region in the Cape. The name refers to the valley stretching from Wynberg hill to Silvermine Mountain, Tokai.

We start the day with a drive to Groot Constantia, the finest surviving example of Cape Dutch architecture. Guests have the option of doing a cellar tour in addition to a wine tasting from the selection on offer.

From here we move on to Klein Constantia where the philosophy is founded on quality rather than quantity, reflected in the wines.

The tour then takes us to Buiterverwachting, established in 1976. The farm is situated on the east-facing slopes of Constantiaberg, Buiterverwachting’s vines produce wines of great complexity with unique aromatic profiles.

Our tour then leads us to Steenberg, 'Mountain of Stone' which has a romantic ring, but the original name was even more beautiful: it was called 'Swaaneweide' - The Feeding Place of Swans. The estate boasts a 5-star hotel and numerous dining experiences where you are welcome to have lunch before heading back into the city.

Please note: Tours are subject to change in directions and Estates visited due to traffic and time constraints.

There are now eight wine cellars open for tasting in the Constantia Valley:
1. EAGLES NEST – tastings by appointment only
2. CONSTANTIA GLEN – tastings by appointment only
3. HIGH CONSTANTIA – tastings by appointment only
4. CONSTANTIA UITSIG
5. BUITENVERWACHTING
6. GROOT CONSTANTIA

8. STEENBERG
